C - Front Suspension

Front springs powder coated black, but original and standard for 503 model to accommodate extra weight of the PAS and air con system..  Dampers replaced with Gas adjustable SPAX.  These also have adjustable spring bases for fine tuning corner weights.  I would not use these particular items again because the lowest level for the spring base is not quite as low as the original Lotus design.  Consequently the ride height is a little higher than it should be.

 

Spyder Front Wishbones

These parts can only be fitted to a chassis which has been modified with brackets to accept the front bush mounts, which mine has.  Essentially the Spyder part replaces the lower transverse arm with a new wishbone that is identical in design, except that it also extends forward with a new inner pivot.  This provides a wide based wishbone and relieves the roll bar of having to locate the lower arm fore and aft.  Spyder supply a drop link to join up with the standard roll bar.

It all works very well and definitely provides extra stability to the car in all conditions.  Spyder can also supply other parts to replace the vertical link and disc brake assy with various Ford parts, but the cost is hard to justify unless you are building a really high performance special.
