J - Braking System
One modification: the front pads have been replaced with EBC Green Stuff. Yes, they may be more expensive, and maybe they don't last as long (but I only do 5,000 miles a year so who cares?), but they are much, much better pads providing more stopping power. Do it!
Also, they don't produce any hot bits that the pitting on alloy wheels, which although not a problem on the Elite, it is worth using them on other cars with more open wheel patterns.
No other mods, just a thorough rebuild of everything;
| New handbrake cable | |
| Rebuilt rear slaves and new shoes (all Capri 3000) | |
| New seals on front calipers | |
| New Servo |
That servo caused a lot of problems. Eventually the rubber diaphragm rots, accelerated by petrol fumes, and I have not found anyone who repairs or refurbishes them (I don't think there is a rebuild kit available). At the time I needed on Classicar Automotive had some new ones in stock, and although pricey, this was the best option. Looks good too!
Changing this item is a pain as you have to work upside down in a cramped footwell with a light. I ended up changing mine three times and got the job down to 40 minutes end to end!
Servo test: this is a standard test for a servo to see if it is working correctly. Release the handbrake, pump the footbrake (you will hear the vacuum released, keeping your foot on the brake pedal run the engine. If the servo is working correctly it will go down when the engine starts.
